Q: I heard that the original SHARP-brand LCDs were superior to the Samsung LCDs being used in the current models. Is there any truth to these claims?
A: This is a popular discussion that's hard to follow up on, simply because its not easy to get two PSP systems from the two regions side by side. There's one picture that's used frequently to showcase the difference, but it's considered fake by many. Even people on the AVS Forums have conflicting opinions about the validity of such claims. Sorry for the lack of an answer, but suffice it to say, both screens manufactured for PSP are fantastic.
Two tiny little questions after the break.
Q: What converter are you using to convert the PSP videos for PSP Fanboy Theatre?
A: We get asked this question about every other week. Check Volume 14 for the answer.
Q: Is it possible for the PSP to handle some of these beautifully artistic PS2 games such as Okami and the upcoming Odin Sphere? If so, can we look forward to them coming to our favorite portable anytime soon?
A: Yes, it is possible for PSP to handle these titles: the newly unveiled God of War game for PSP should be a testament to the system's true capabilities. However, don't expect Okami to reach our platform--it simply didn't perform well enough. Don't expect Odin Sphere either: the developers have never worked on a handheld before.

I am a PSP owner (of course).. I also own a Iriver PMP as well as an 80GB 5.5G Ipod. I have to say.. 0 complains from me about PSP screen, it's just plain gorgeous.
any idea where I can download that picture to do my personal comparison?
Also, I forsee 2 years from now, homebrew industry will be able to fix up PS2 games (take out the analog stick function) and be able to port them unto PSP..
now, it's up to Sony to beat the homebrewers to this and take up this multi-million dollar business that would otherwise lost to piracy completely.
I mean, if someone has the software that can play my FFX, FFXII, RE4, DMC3 on my PSP, I'm willing to pay BIG bucks for it.

kingofwale ... maybe on the PSP2 , the PSP doesnt has the power to emulate the PS2 . Even though I cannot say clearly that one is stronger than the other ( bealive me Ive seen many technical comparisons , and yes the PSPs procesor and GPU is faster , while the PS2 can rander flat shaded polygons and moste effects faster ) neither can just dirrectly emulate one and another .
And for the screens ... well I played on both model and I cannot really tell the difference :?

here's a good comparison, of course, I'm not saying it's as simple as PS1 to PSP, but It will be a money-making way for Sony, I see no reason why they shouldn't even consider it

Yes, that comparison pic is a fake - it was distributed back in 2005 and was shown as being from an entirely different website comparison page having nothing to do with the PSP at all.
Those are test images that were used were for a flatscreen monitor comparison, not for the PSP.

There's a difference between having similar specs, and being able to fully emulate a machine with similar specs. I love your positivity, kingofwale, but it'll never happen on this psp.

I did a personal test using my friend's 3.40 OE U.S. Region PSP that was made back in july last year compared to my 3.40 OE Blue Japanese region PSP and I must say that whatever the newer model screens are using... they are WAY nicer than even back in july. Its ALLOT brighter and more vibrant

what about dead pixels? My boyfriend first had a japanese first gen PSP with Sharp screen, zero dead pixel.
He then bought 2 european PSP (first for online games compatibility, the second to replace the japanese broken one - don't drop a PSP on the floor !), both had dead pixels.
Mine, bought in the UK, dead pixels too.
Then my boyfriend bought a japanese metallic blue PSP, and it has dead pixels too.
Needless to say only the first PSP had a Sharp screen.
For image quality, you can't see any difference between the 2 screens

Hell yeah! That was my question. No, I ask this because I'll be changing the screen on one of my PSPs.
I am not interested in talk about the new units; I already know how good/bad they are in comparison to the former. The Sharp LCD I speak/ask of, is a very particular screen, used just on the PSP1000 models that were released in Japan on launch. Pixelator, you're the one who can answer my question: Is your unit's screen better than what you usually see in the market?
As for those images, yeah, I've seen 'em, and I know they're about LCD monitors. I need a firm answer on whether Sharp LCDs have less ghosting than the Samsungs.

apparently, this pic is real.
i just got a second psp recently... and only just put the two side by side... and my old one has a blueish tint like the right side...
i don't pay THAT much attention to sharpness, as far as i'm concerned... both look fine.
