Go Sony!
I hope they put these out on a more 'regular' basis and start sharing the love with NA.
Any word on direct to PSP yet?

How about the titles people really want to play on their PSP's like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid?
Even better, what about letting me pop in any game I want into the system and having it convert the game to PSP format so I could take it on the go?

As far as I'm concerned, there is no such thing as PSOne games on PSP. Until it is available on a PC, which everyone with internet access needs to have, it really doesn't exist except as a marketing scam to push the flailing PS3.

They had better extend this to North America. How come japan, with like, HALF the install base as North America gets all the PS1 titles?

I would consider myself as someone who wants to play the PS1 games I still own on my PSP (I have FFVIII and FFVII). and yeah, SOny, make it happen...
waiiit, it's already on my PSP.. now, how did it get there? *wink wink*
There's no such thing as "impossible" in the land of PSP fandom.

Sure, but while I give Sony a hard time, my system is clean and up to date with official firmware. My opinion is that I support legit homebrew, but not hacking the firmware, ripping UMD games or otherwise stepping over where I draw my personal anti-piracy line.

hey Txa, I do respect what you do. but I don't believe what I'm doing is 'piracy'. like I said, I do own the CDs, which I paid good money for it.
there's nothing wrong with ripping UMD to memory stick (ok, maybe it's breaking the DRM), but unless Sony shorten the loadtime and improve the battery life through another way. I feel that I entitled to what I do with content I paid for.

That is why I stated that it was *my* personal line. If the Sony firmware supported ripping UMD games and playing them, I would have a collection of MemSticks rather than UMD's I carry, as my reviews typical pound on loadtimes of PSP games.
If the PSP firmware supports loading of PSOne games from the MemStick and you have the originals, why *shouldn't* you be able to use those? I see no issue there.

Just look at this list:

And then look at the list of PSone games Sony has released so far and have a good laugh at them.
Nobody knows what's wrong with them, but IMHO they're not the smartest.

because I would assume ripping CD to Memory stick would be breaking DRM. so that's why Sony isn't doing it even though it makes the world of sense. Developer will not allow it.
exact same reason why Music industry doesn't want to sell music online.

I'm old ... I spent the late 70's / early 80's recording albums to tape. So I don't buy the DCMA crap that somehow recording a CD to iTunes to listen to at work and on my iPod or PDA or PSP is different. I don't believe that I *own* the work, but the license to 'fair use' should be liberal enough to allow for that. I know that using a game in a different form starts to get a bit iffy - but in this case it should be allowable.

it looks like now that PS3 owners can play the games too, Sony's getting more support from other developers for the PSN. Or maybe they already had the support, but were holding off on releasing games until they could make 'em PS3 compatible.

One reason why Sony is probably holding off on releasing triple a games, is because the ps3 is still sailing through rough waters. So it makes sense to wait till they have a larger ps3 install , then(hopefully) release the big guns, which should get more attention by then.

txa1265, you happen to work for RIAA or MPAA? ;)
I am not saying you "own" the content, all I am saying is that when you pay for it, you shouldn't be restricted to play it anywhere you want. like when I pay for a CD, I should be allowed to play it in my stereo, or my DVD player, or even on my Ipod. after all, I do own the copy.
Although this doesn't include putting it on the web or anything, but I SHOULD be allowed to use it however I want (personal use wise)
same goes with games. if I own the copy, I believe I entitled to use it however I want.

...damned ethics applying to ancient relics! Virtual Console had to become another commercial exploit, didn't it? Now we must piss ourselves over playing PSone titles on the PSP that we didn't pay for via the PSstore/market protocol - shame on us.
Besides, I'm with Kingofwale, even IF we have to get mind-numingly shrewd about the matter - I own a friggin' child's pool worth of PSone games. So why not?! Custom Firmware > Current crap. Although I will confess that I have two PSPs, with one of them running the official firmware.

Re:"txa1265, you happen to work for RIAA or MPAA? ;)"
Not even close - I am personally a full advocate of 'fair use' as it existed pre-CD and the recent RIAA hysteria in which businesses have convinced politicians that copying a song from a CD to hard disk is the same as smashing someone's door and stealing their jewelery.
But I am very much anti-piracy and pro-paying developers for their work.
And I will again state that the overwhelming majority of people using cracked firmware are not altruistic homebrew innovators ... they are pirates playing new retail PSP games they didn't buy on their systems. Sorry, but I call absolute BS on apologists who claim otherwise - I've been around too long to believe otherwise.
So I support those who own 'Masters of Teras Kasai' for the PSx and rip it to the MemStick to play their own copy ... but not those who say "I used to have Final Fantasy for the NES, so I'm entitled to download the PSP version and play it from the MemStick". Very different beast indeed.
