It's the rumor that won't go away, and for good reason. Pocket Gamer explores the legend of the PlayStation Phone, and why it's so believable. The primary reason is history: Synergy with other Sony properties is a common practice for the phone maker. For example, the Walkman music phone, the Cybershot camera phone, and the Bravia TV phone. Certainly, a PlayStation phone would fit perfectly in this family.Pocket Gamer suggests that the PS Phone should resemble the sliding Sony w850i (pictured). When open, the phone will have the necessary keys for making phone calls. However, when closed, the device would resemble a PSP, and feature Sony's distinctive button layout.
The phone would also need impressive 3D capabilities. Nvidia, the graphics provider of PS3, has proven it can provide top-of-the-line graphics on phones, and we'd expect no less on the PS Phone. Connectivity with PSP and PS3 would be vital, and as such Bluetooth and wi-fi support would be necessary. Add music and video capabilities, and a camera, and this dream phone will have it all--and the pricetag to boot. (It would be in the astronomical range of Apple's iPhone.)

Personaly, i think its an intresting, yet anoying idea.
Mainly because i already have a psp, ps2, and S.E K800i.
But i was actually thinking last night about how relative Sony Ericson is to the rest of the Sony family, which led me to think about a psp phone.
I can imagine to someone without any / all of the devices i listed, the Playstation phone might be a pretty decent idea, but it seems that as technology progresses, more and more devices are being crammed into one hand held, making devices baught previously to the newer device useless.
If you are a consumer whore like myself, your main option is to scrap the previous device(s) and replace it with the newer one.
However budget conscious people will be looking for features that have not been implemented on any of the previous devices in order to replace their phones ect.
This will be sonys main challenge.
I think rather than flooding the market with more gadgets that have combined many features of standalone devices, maybe Sony should focus on enhancing the current line of individual technologies.
My 2 Cents.
(BTW how do i register to this place?)

I think Sony would over saturating the market, especially when taking into account the Skype coding found in the PSP.

I could care less about a PSP phone! I own a PSP and love it! As far as new phones are concerned I work for a major vendor in north america so I get every new device of said vendor to train the sales force on so I am good in that department!

My Ideal phone will have the whole face covered in the beautiful PSP widescreen, only it will be a touch screen now. The very few real buttons it will have are the Dpad and Triangle, Square, etc.. bottons will both slide out from their repective sides.

For psp's sake, I hope this rumor never comes to fruition. Sony just needs to focus on selling the psp we have now. If they integrate a phone, camera, and whatever else into psp's successor, then that would be great.

I do not understand this condition. It sounds like a very unhealthy and destructive behavior.

Your ideas intrigue me doctor, i would like a subscription to your magazine.
The only thing destructive about impulse buying is my bank balance.
I buy the things that i want, thats why i work hard for my money.
