If you weren't able to quite tell from the demo whether you liked Puzzle Quest or not, maybe the reviews of others will help you. Other than these reviews, we'll have a review of Puzzle Quest up soon. But enough of that for now, what did the critics say?
- Gamespot (8.5/10) "The parts may seem commonplace, but Puzzle Quest's blend of RPG and puzzle-game convention makes for something refreshingly unique and dangerously addictive."
- Games Radar (7.0/10) "The PSP version loads a bit more slowly but looks better, and the DS version features lighting-fast loads but tosses in slightly sluggish, clunky touch-controls."
- PlayStation Official Magazine UK (5.0/10) "It's gently hypnotic stuff, but fight a dozen super-intelligent skeletons and you'll soon be yearning for the simple pleasures of Lumines." (Mar 2007)

There's a bug in the PSP version of this, sadly. During your adventure you get Companions to join you, and each comes with a particular skill (basically they're just an auto-cast spell at the start of battle). In the PSP version, they don't work!!!
The DS version works as advertised.
It isn't a show stopper, but if you have a DS you might be better off with that version. :(
That said, I picked this up (for the PSP) on Saturday and it has owned my soul since. The entire game is based around Bejeweled, though. If you don't love Bejeweled, you'll hate this game.
The reviewer for Playstation Mag UK must not love Bejeweled. :) Some of the fights are tough, but you don't lose anything for losing a battle and in fact can collect a bit of gold and experience even though you lose. So there's always a sense of moving forward.
And again, since its Bejeweled, there's a definite luck factor, too, since you never know what's going to drop next.

I think that - even with the PSP bug - this game is pretty freakin' awesome (technically speaking, of course)!
It is structured like a traditional RPG, with main quests, side quests, choices to be made and so on. When you hit a battle you enter the block game - and it is definitely more interesting than Bejeweled. The puzzle portion wraps an entire skill and inventory system around a Bejeweled-like core. But the level of strategy and thought you need to use - especially as the game advances - is considerable. It has made me very glad there is no real 'death penalty'.
As for the DS vs. PSP thing, the DS works correctly, but sound is supposed to be pretty crappy, especially at higher volumes, and some have mentioned touch screen precision issues. I only have the PSP version so I can't comment there.

I also got this game and think it's great. Love the combination between a rpg and puzzle game. Don't listen to POM UK, it's a great game.
