They said it couldn't be done, but the PSP is about to have two platinum titles on it's hands and they both are Monster Hunter games. Capcom announced today that they have shipped 1million units of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd just weeks after the games release. In addition, the original Monster Hunter is just about to hit the same milestone shortly. The news of this makes the inevitability of a Monster Hunter 3 all too real. Now that Japan has it's killer app for PSP, let's hope more games begin to climb to this milestone and raise the low software sales on PSP in Japan.

I wasn't all that thrilled by the original Monster Hunter ... pretty average game, IMO. Many better games I'm anticipating, but great news that it is selling so well in Japan. However, the fact that *both* games are big-sellers and not much else is selling seems to indicate a love for the game rather than a bouy of life for the platform.

I don't think the PSP was ever doing horribly in Japan, nor do I find the system is in desperate need of "a bouy of life".
The PSP is very popular, it has hundreds of games and millions of users - end of story.

Sony isn't doing anything right ... they signed on some people who are doing things right! I'm playing Ratchet & Warriors now for reviews ... nice month indeed ...

...Monster Hunter 2nd looks amazing. My friend gets imports, and the visuals are abso-*******-lutely, amazing! Well parts of the visuals, because as you know, Monster Hunter's been known for stunning environments and stuff.
However, praise aside: I am uber pissed that part 2 doesn't support infrastructure mode! When will they get this part right? I mean, both the PS2 renditions sported netplay, so why deprive PSP of such a useful feature?

What do rappers love?? Platinum!!!
I think that's what the pun was supposed to be... good lord folks!
Anyways, MH2 isn't hitting the states until September... that's a good ways off and I don't think that it would take that many months just to translate it.... so here's to hoping that Capcom answers the demand of infrastructure.

"Platinum" = bling. That's the "rappers" reference. Super obscure =(

...ah shit! Guilty as charged, Pixelator.
Hey, maybe the US release will sport infrastructure, and the Japs will get it via online patch. I mean, it already has the download service going, so why not?

Unfortunately, the sad thing is that once again Sony's deceptive use of 'shipments' when everyone else uses 'sales' tells a tale. The game is *not* platinum, it has sold

this game will never be the great game that it is capable of being without multiplayer infrastructure. period! (turning green)
