There are plenty of new PSPs in gamer's houses since the holidays and I figured some new PSP owners may not be up to speed on what great games the system has to offer. With that in mind, every day this week we'll feature a new genre and list the top 5 games (according to metareviews), so no matter what you're into, you'll have some idea of what games you should own. Day 2 kicks off with a very competitive genre on PSP: Racing.
Top 5 Racing games on PSP
- (tie) Ridge Racer/WipEout Pure
- Burnout Legends
- TOCA Race Driver 2
- Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast
- Twisted Metal: Head-On
I'm not a giant racing fan, so I only own Burnout Legends and Twisted Metal: Head-On (I dig the carnage factor). I did enjoy them both quite a bit though. But what I think doesn't really matter. What do you think about these 5 games? What racing games aren't on this list that you think every PSP owner should have?
If you missed it, you can check out our previous top 5 game lists:

Hey!! Both Burnout and Wipeout were better than Riiidge Racer. Midnight Club was better than Outrun, if you didn't mind 10 minute load times.

OH that is a hard choice. Burnout is great all over (I love Road Rage and Crash mode). Ridge Racer has a great announcer.

Played and Loved all those games EXCEPT for the ABSOLUTELY AWFUL Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast. I played it for 30 minutes and traded in the next day. My god that was bad.

I completely love Ridge Racer. Not only is a great racing game, it's still one of the most beautiful, fast and entertaining games on the PSP.

No Need For Speeds? Granted NFS:Carbon is a viciously trimmed-down version of the larger console versions, but it's still a helluva lot of fun.

get your psp on custom firmware and play gran turismo 2! I'm suprised how well that game held up. not so much in the graphics, but gameplay is great. hell even the graphics are still pretty good, just really pixelated.

outrun 2k6 wasn't the greatest, but the infrastructure racing mode gave it something special, as always! infrastructure can make a mediocre game brilliant

I like Toca, but it's really hard to play without analog acceleration. Maybe it's just me, but I find the accelerator lags my button presses and then it's just 100% or nothing, so control out of curves isn't great.
I might be missing something though... I went back to playing Burnout and mangling things intentionally for points...

Wipeout is pretty crappy for first place. Is this really the best the PSP has to offer?

Wipeout Pure with downloads, awesome portable game. Wipeout Pure with only the packaged content, sucks.

Am I the only one wondering why Twisted Metal: Head On is on a racing list when there only a mini-game of racing in it. Car Combat is not Racing, if you put it any broad genre it would go in Action, but given your track record of being unable to distinguish between the genres, I would say you need to (re)learn the genres.

Oops, they're right, Steven. Never has anyone in the history of the world categorized TM as a racing game. Bad on you, bud. But techinically, there ARE six listed, so the crowd is sated.

moosey: Huh? I didn't think metacritic categorized games according to genre. Have you even been to the site?
