You should know this by now: Monster Hunter is successful in Japan. But how successful? 500,000 units in day one. Did you know that each copy lined up would span the distance from Pluto to Mars? Yes, I'm not lying. Yes, this is the truth.[Via IGN]

You need to have IGN insider, which is like 30 bucks a year (i think...).
ANyways, I havent heard any detail on the game. Is Capcom smart enough to support Infrastructure mode this time?

I wonder how many would have been sold by the end of the week. This is very good news for the psp.

Isn't the shortest distance between Pluto and Mars about 10AU, 1.500.000.000 Kms?
Isn't a PSP Game box about 25 cms. long? So, 500.000x25cms=12.500.000=125 kms.
Excuse my poor math skills, but hey, who cares? Andrew was just joking, man.
Anyway, I wonder how many of those copies were bundles, and if this is going to be a major or minor impact on PSP sales.
The PSP has stayed on the third place for some time now, and it would be good to see its sales boosted over the 30k top.

Well, monster honter, they are actual monsters, HUGE. And theres no Over the top merchandising attached to it. Pokemon has been essentially the exact same game for years, they havent even animated the sprites for the most part. You pretty much capture all the pocket monsters you can, buy the tshirts, the stuffed animals, the cards. Just kidding. But seriously they are very different.
I still dont get what the japanese see in those pokemon games. Its like if we here in the US stood outside in the rain to buy Dynasty Warriors. Why such high demand for a game that has been nearly the same since the gameboy color days?

The first one, which also sold tons in Japan, sold ~140k here. So I'm not betting for any big splash here on #2.

LOL @ #9
If the the PSP was a mile high and there were 500,000 of them end to end, it still wouldn't reach Pluto from Mars.

Didn't it also come as a bundle? I hope the psp moved a lot of units with this.
What is the Japanese obsession with monsters..
Monster Hunters for the psp, Pokemon for the DS

The PSP isn't dead. I've said it before, the PSP has expanded the portable market. It caters to a different audience than the DS. This is why they can co-exist. The DS just attracts a wider range, which is why it sells a lot faster.
I'm just waiting for Sony to do a hardware revision that will make the PSP more attractive.

Unfortunately not, my friend.. apparently the developers never learned from their past mistake- not adding online multiplaying in the game. I know, it's depressing. But that's the word as far as the US release goes. ad hoc, yes.. online multiplaying, no. DAMN!
