- Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.
- Support for the MPEG-4 AVC format has been added under [Location Free Player]
- [Dynamic Normalizer] has been added as a feature under [Sound Settings] in [Settings].
It should be noted that this upgrade will render homebrew useless on your system, and may prevent you from downgrading indefinitely. While we fully support Sony's endeavors on the system, we want you to make an educated choice before deciding to upgrade or not. Of course, this upgrade is but a taste of things to come: Sony will most likely include an even more robust feature set in the next major upgrade.
For those of you unable to access Network Update, feel free to download the upgrade from us. Connect your PSP via USB and save in PSP/GAME/UPDATE.
[Update 1: News from QJ suggests that people with custom firmware should not upgrade, as your systems may become bricked.]

I can't help but feel this was rushed out to patch the new cracks that everyone is so excited about. With the PS3 and PSP, it almost feels like Sony is like a nerdy little kid, keeping their best cards in reserve to really surprise people... except that here, MS and Nintendo already have such a massive lead, Sony is more like a creepy middle aged man who is proud of himself for being a level-60 WoW player: only he knows, and nobody cares when he tell them.

Why cant the Sony devs come up with some cool stuff to put in their updates? Pspfanboy and IGN already came out with a list of features they'd like to see on the official firmware. But is Sony listening? Noooooooo....

Andrew, you forgot to mention the new web browser Memory Economy option in the features list. Also, some people say that the visual player has new color options. (I don't know for sure, since I'm a 3.03OE user. :D).

The Location Free Player codec update only works if you have one of the newer Location Free Base Stations.

Dynamic normalization means the volume of each song won't vary too much. So, if you have one really loud MP3 and one really soft one, they'll play at about the same volume. It's pretty handy to not have to hassle with the volume controls too often.

What is needed is an auto resume in the music playback area. After watching a video or playing a game, then going back to music, it starts the music from the beginning again. Quite annoying :( Especially for audio books.

Why would I upgrade to 3.10 when I have 3.03 OE-C? Homebrew is good because hackers out there are finding ways to maximize the PSPs funcionality. Let's take for example the Infrared, SONY hasn't able to do anything about it but someone out there has been able to make the PSP into a universal remote control. When SONY comes out with a firmware that has a lot of cool features, like turning the PSP into a phone or making use of its IR then I'll pretty sure I will upgrade it. And I also hope in the future that the PSP will support .avi video files and other formats. But still, every software has a bug and sooner or later, dark Alex will find a hole in 3.10.

Phil, it should be resuming where you left off. That's the normal function of the PSP: you can listen to a song, stop it halfway & go to the XMB, mess about with watching videos, looking at pictures, or internet browser, close that, and when you hover on the music icon of the XMB, press HOME and it will continue the song where you paused it.

Interesting update ... 3.10 may brick custom firmware ... how long has that been something suspected ...
Here is the controversial question of the day - I just noticed on VGCharts that Killzone Liberation sold a whopping 45000 copies ... I wonder what the impact is of 'homebrew' on that?
