The media loves to paint a bleak future for the PSP, calling it a system destined to die. We call those people misinformed. The PSP looks to sell a million units in the UK alone this year, making it the second best-selling console of the year, right behind the Nintendo DS. "People mention us in the same breath as DS because we're both handheld products, but we're actually going after very different markets," Sony UK's commercial director Kevin Jowett told MCV. "We've put in just under £300 million of turnover at retail with PSP because we're such a boys console and we've hit the mark with older gamers."
While the PSP may not be number one, it's certainly not going away any time soon. One has to admit, beating out other consoles, like the Xbox 360, is truly a noteworthy accomplishment.

I love it how when the compare the volume of sales between psp ds, ps3 wii people fail to take into account the sales in amount of dollars. of course the wii will sell more than ps3 - its less than half as expensive! same goes for psp ds. I'd like to see comparisons in terms of sales ($), not in turms of number of units wich is really misleading. Props to the psp!

People need to realize that this isn't a Lynx or a GameGear. It's already outsold ALL other non-Nintendo handhelds ever produced, worldwide. In fact, it's sold more units at this point in its life than the Gamecube or XBOX did. Were those two systems failures? I don't think so.
The handheld market can bear two competitors. Being #2 isn't killing the PSP off as so many Nintendo fanbots would have us believe.

It's fairly easy, Sony's just big in Europe. Everyone likes them.
+ comes the fact that the PSP is around €199, or €249 game included (bundle) it truly is quite a big rival for the DS.
Come to think of, DS games cost as much as PSP games...
Heck, even Wii games cost as much as Xbox 360 games, talk about ripoff =(
Maybe Europe is more anti-nintendo =0

Achually, a lot of the older PSP Games (colin mcrae, ridge racer, outrun etc) are cheaper than a lot of the older DS games (mario kart, mario 64 etc).
It is most bizzarre and something I can't work out for myself. However, this christmas, I'll still buy a DS because when we knuckle down to it, the PSP is shit and too expensive.
IF they ever price drop it to £100, I'll buy one for the racing games. Until then, sony can learn there lesson and bugger off.
