Two days after we revealed DevHook was emulating the 3.01 firmware, Sony has introduced 3.02. As we later discovered, it appears that this firmware doesn't add any security to the system at all. To get the update, simply use "Network Update" from your PSP's XMB.
[Update 2: According to PSP-Vault, 3.02 seems to work on DevHook. There is no additional security added to this version. Instead, it appears a certain game is responsible for this update.]

I suspect we are being far to paranoid.
3.01 was reportadly due to system issues with some of the PS1 downloaded games. I suspect this is the same here. Sony have added considerable amount of code for access to the PS3, i would suggest that these security patches are more to do with holes around PS1 game encription.
Sony will have their own team of hackers (or they should) who continually try to break into the code. My guess is they are finding ways around their own encription algorythms and are fixing them up. I expect they are more concerned about holes in that code than the ability to run homebrew (At the moment).

When does Sony just give up?
Its not only damaging to find their updates hacked again (in a matter of days, or should I say day), but supporting homebrew will also boost creativity and, therefore, sales.
I wonder who is the stubborn-head at Sony insisting on this.
Waste of time, waste of resources, specially when we all know they need help with the PSP market acceptance...
Go figure...

Embarrasing, I should say so. It appears that -1 day might be the real number as it indicates that Dev Hook works with this aswell.
The is a roumor that Homebrew will be validated some how through the PS3 system, there are already some non corperate games available i understand (I cant conforim til after March :o(
Hopefully 'Free' will be in their pricing structure. Its a must if they want people to upgrade.

I also have to wait 'till March ;-)
I think Sony should work with the homebrew community and actually sponsor some projects, it is even cheaper for them and brings huge benefits for the platform!
I mean... as I've read on this blog, there is already a homebew PS1 emulator available, even before they made their own public with the PS3 release...

I don't see why people keep adding that these updates are because of homebrew. Its like starting beef with people you don't know and walking around people who see you do it and think you're some Mr. Bad Guy. I find it funny seeing people write these statements. Everytime these firmwares come out, you will always read these homebrew fans get excited. Just buy a GP2X and do all the stuff you wish you can do on the psp on it or on your PC.

Well I can say that it does work with the .51 devhook. It took me like 5min to do it there are no visual differences in the update. So I guess the security settings have something to do with remote play or the ps1 games downloads. Oh well nice try Sony but "no soup for you".

Are you sure that the latest update corrects the 1080i issue (not that it matters to me-- 720p & 1080p all the way, baby!)? It looks like the engadget boys disagree!

sony sucks right now. I don't want to see another update unless it'll allow me to download PS1 games directly from my PSP.

Hey, it's JustEaton from over at PSP-Vault. One of our members has reported that the 3.02 update is to cover a bug regarding downloadable content for PaRappa the Rapper. Apprently the browser crashes on firmwares 3.0+, so they released a little patch.

Why is there all this negativity towards PSP updates? I dont do homebrew, I fear bricking my PSP, and I look forward to every update - its like getting the latest, up to date, off the shelf bought PSP, except that I dont have to spend £150 each time.
This is the answer to always wanting Color on your age old GameBoy - don't release the GameBoy Color, modify the GameBoy.
And yes, I am completely aware that the above is obviously impossible, but I hope you understand what I'm getting at with it.

This IS getting pretty ridiculous, but you have to understand -- Sony is doing this for publishers/developers who are concerned about piracy. That's all it is.
If all they were stopping was emulators and home made flash games, you wouldn't be seeing the rapid-fire security patches like this.
