PS3s aren't the only thing ending up on eBay. It appears that someone posted a PSP devkit on eBay (pictured above). These plain looking gray boxes are used to develop and test PSP games, and in the wrong hands, could possibly compromise PSP security quite swimmingly. The bids got up to $329 before the auction was closed, most likely by an angered Sony lawyer. According to PSP3D, these kits are contractually licensed to developers, meaning some developer somewhere is probably going to be in a whole world of legal pain very soon.

It's almost assuredly been put up by an ex-employee of some company. I had a PS2 dev system at my house for a while because I needed to be able to play burned revs of the game we were working on. Had I been less scrupulous and not brought it back before we were laid off, I could've sold it, too.
Selling a devkit while still employed at the company you took it from would be exceedingly stupid, but I suppose it could happen. Either way, they can be a tempting target, especially for morons who think they can get away with ebaying them. The downside here is that by canceling the auction, Sony may never know where the kit came from in the first place. If I were them, I'd have bought it and THEN gone after the guy after checking the serial #.

Wish I knew. I'd love to be able to make my own psp games.
I don't have the know how to make them (nor the know how to put this kit to malicious use)but it'd be fun to play around with it until I could.
My first project: Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas RPG. I tried through RPG Maker but I couldn't do everything I wanted with that.
Then a portable Warhammer 40K turn based strategy game.

That's probably actually a test unit and not a "dev kit", which implies it comes with software APIs and such so you can code a game. All that is in the hareware that allows you to run code on a DVD-R on a PSP. The test unit also allows you to switch between 222 and 333 mhz, for what it's worth, but basically it's a PSP tethered to a big clunky DVD drive since it's not like developers have UMD burners.

Thats not a dev kit. it's a test unit.
It plays the games on dvd-rs. Simulates a dead battery and it can double the ram for certain tests.
you can't make a game using just that. but you can test one!
