The internet loved seeing the dual-analog PSP in action. Too bad it looked as bad as Britney Spears' you-know-what. Well, the creative people of Next PSP Hacks have come up with a much more attractive solution: dual analog nubs, which are cased internally and symmetrically. Looking at the video they provided, it seems like this is what the PSP should've had in the first place! Of course, I wouldn't rip apart my PSP to attempt what must have been a daunting installation.

I don't care if it looks 100% factory OEM and is a two minute mod... A second analog is an utter waste of time without games to support it.
All this 'analog' is being used as in the video is a digital joystick. Maybe it's a little more finger-friendly than the face buttons, but in that case why not just slap a d-pad or nub over them?

I don't agree. I think it would be much better than using the buttons or plastering a circle (or dpad) over the buttons as previously done. The looks alone would be worth if if a 2nd analog was so-desired. It's really a comfort issue here.
Many mods have nothing to do with practicality or worthwhile-ness. It's a matter of being able to do it, and/or make it do what you want. If other people appreciate it, great. Notice he said it was totally worth it (for him).
I know I'm willing to do it. And I'll probably try the same thing on the DS for fun.

This dual analog mod is perfect for MGS: Portable Ops. Use the left analog nub or dpad for movement while simultaneously using the right analog nub for camera control (or vice versa). The modder would just have to make sure the right analog nub function is mapped to the left analog nub or dpad, instead of mapping it to the four face buttons.

Oh joy, the two big PSP haters chime in to let us know what's better for the PSP.
"Use the left analog nub or dpad for movement while simultaneously using the right analog nub for camera control (or vice versa)"
No. Unless the game was designed for two analog inputs, you can't just slap a second on there and expect it to magically work. Games don't work that way.
I swear, I don't see what the big deal is with using face buttons. They work fine with games like Katamari and even Coded Arms. Yeah, it'd be NICE if Sony had included a second analog - but they didn't. Just adding one on there isn't going to change the fact that PSP games will not recognize the second analog as such.

ahh fanboy stupidity and denial at its best. if you bothered to play or read up about MGS: Portable Ops, you would know what i'm talking about. You cant use the dpad and left analog nub functions at the same time in MGS: PO. With a dual analog mod, you can. without the mod, your left thumb keeps hopping back and forth between the dpad and left analog nub. feel free to misquote me out of context now.

Pixelator,
I agree with what you're saying, but I'd go for that mod, especially considering the game in demonstration: GITS. I own that title, and I have always agonised over its odd control scheme, which only allows freelook on the face buttons. So yes, while these are obscure titles, I wouldn't mind having such a mod to enhance my experience with those titles.

This is an excellent mod the guys over at acidmods are releasing a solderless kit for this
Works with all games OBVIOUSLY all it does it map the face buttons to the nub simply by soldering onto the traces or in the case of the solderless kit some kind of overlay

Works great with both socom games and battlefront 2.
Some games are meant to use 2 analog stick but since the psp does not have 2 the usual right sticks look function is used on the face buttons instead.
How dumb is it to have the left stick to move but have to used buttons to look around.
This mod give you a second stick to look instead.
Try this mod out.
You will OWN in all online psp fps games FOR SURE.
I love it. this is the way it should have been designed from the start.
