Great... let's keep it nice and easy for all the people that pirate PSP games.
Anybody who thinks that the main use for this is for homebrew is absolutely lying to themselves. Just look how prevelent psp piracy is on the net. And you know why? Cuz of programs like this.
Do you really think Sony would put so much effort into squashing homebrew? No, the entire freaking reason they release constant 'security' updates is to squash the high level of piracy on the psp.
It also seems like an odd thing to do for a PSP fansite. Promoting piracy on the PSP. And people wonder why psp game sales are not that great...

Yea, I agree Colin, I really think the Sony would have way more profit if these devhook people stopped pirating.
I also bet that Sony is not releasing bigger memory stick duos like 8gb because they fear it will promote piracy. I don't know about everyone else, but I would really like to have bigger mem sticks for my music.
And it doesn't seem like the piracy will stop anytime soon. I mean, how fast did it take for hackers to emulate 3.01? Has it been a week and a half? Well, this sucks for Sony, and sucks for my memory sticks.

Yeah thats one way to look at it Colin. However many gamers who buy UMD's realize that since its a somewhat unwieldy format and that storing all the games they own on one memory card is a easier way to travel with many games.
Cuts down on possible lost UMD's since theres nothing to switch and makes playing easier, with shorter load times and uses less battery life.
Theres "benefits" and "problems" on both sides, it depends which way you look at it. Your looking at just one negative impact based solely on the availability of an application to play backup games.

well colin ... if that is you're real name ;)
this story is very news worthy for those following the saga that is the PSP.
Sony possibly threatened to litigate against booster if he didn’t cease and desist devhook.
now we have two new versions of devhook

excuse me while i go dust off my psp to get 3.01 on there. just in time for metal gear.....

Sony needs to just give up on the PSP all together, and let the Homebrewers and Pirates have it for themselves.
this "war against homebrew" that Sony is conducting is just stupid, and it is hurting the PSP overall.

Jamie,
Thats true, and as a person with a huge PSP game collection I agree that would be super handy. Also, there are some good homebrew apps too with honest developers who just want to make stuff for the psp. And thats hella cool.
But there is little denying that the ~vast~ majority of people that use it are using it for piracy reasons. And whatever veil of legitimacy people use to try to justify the continued development of it cannot hide the real reason behind it. It's piracy. Pure and simple.
I'm no angel, I pirate PC games all the time (I try to buy the ones I like or play a lot), but something about people trying to justify devhook as a 'Score for the little man!' just drives me nuts.
And I really do feel that a PSP fansite shouldn't be in anyway promoting piracy. I'm sure that wasn't the intent, but I don't think Devhook needs anything that lends itself more legitimacy.

agreed.
all this "I buy the games, and then play the ISO so my game doesn't get dirty" or " I get the ISO just to try it out and then I buy it." 8 times out of 10, it is one of two things:
1) A Load of Bullshit.
2) A means to justify to yourself why you aren't wrong for pirating a game.
i'm not saying that everyone pirates games. I'm just saying that the ones who do are WRONG. regardless of whatever excuse they come up with to make themselves feel better about it.

Actually, Colin, et al, it significantly cuts down on load times. On most games it is 1-2 seconds, on very few it is up to 10. Oh, and my UMDs stay scratch free in their cases. But I guess all of us are pirates, right?

Colin, you're being quite an ass.
Nobody at PSP Fanboy is "promoting piracy" simply by mentioning the news that 3.01 emu is available. That's like saying you're in favor of shooting people by advocating the right to carry a firearm.
Not everyone who uses their PSP for homebrew ia also pirates UMD games. Why? Because it's a pain in the ass to torrent or fileshare the big games, it requires gobs of drive space and at least one really high capacity memory stick, if not several.
What this allows people to do is play the latest games without being forced to update the firmware. That's all.

Colin takes holier-than-thou to a whole other, extremely unholy level. Do you want your PTA membership revoked?
Stupidly obvious rule #1: If you want to be an advocate against piracy, don't mention... that you pirate. I bet you wish there was an edit post option when you threw that crap up, didn't ya?!
Stupidly obvious rule #2: Think before you post. Stay the anonymous internet warrior that you are. Thanks!

Not to mention my absolute favorite homebrew, the PMP AVC Mod which unlocks the full resolution 480x272 of the PSP for my own videos. That's DOUBLE the resolution of the 320x240 you'll get through the standard PSP video player. Colin FTL

Buying the UMD and then ripping the ISO to play it off the memory stick isnt illegal actually, because you own the UMD. You can call getting the ISO and then "buying" the UMD a load of bullshit, but I suggest you do a little research on what piracy is yourself.
Have a nice day.
