While many frustrated gamers are waiting for Sony to get their act together with their official PSone emulator support, it appears that a coder at DCemu has released a homebrew PSone emulator of his own. It will apparently run "anything," including ISO, BIN, Z and ZNX files (whatever that means). There are a few bugs in this alpha release, but according to users, many games are completely playable and running at full-speed. With the homebrew community seemingly one-upping Sony, hopefully we'll see the official PSone download service hit American soon... and without the need for a PS3.
[Thanks, jamie!]

yeah, i wish i could use this (FW3.01). I've heard this new PS1 emulator is faster and more smoother than its predecessor. Hope that helps...Kris

I'm confused.
What firmware does this need?
Do the files go in the base dir or the PSP dir
The instructions aren't very clear.

This is for HOMEBREW users only. If you don't have a homebrew-capable PSP, you won't be able to run it. Check out the homebrew category (on the right) to read older stories on how to get it running.

no that aint the question, question is why did you update. People have been told over and over not to update if you want (full/all) homebrew at this point. You'll need a 1.5 or a 2.71-SE/2.71 (after emu 1.5).
if you want homebrew stop updating your PSP with homebrew and 2.71 you can play every game release (version faker) so there is NO reason to update.
PS: 2.80 has an eloader, but thats very limited homebrew.

tested it and works on 2.8 (eloader), I used crash bandicoot 2 (small file size), it was slow but it worked, i didn't want to mess with overclocking...
to install emulator, extract on psp\games\__SCE__ps1p
you need to put two ohter things in that folder
1. the ps1 boot image "scph1001.bin"
2. the game image in iso, img, ...
the boot image can be found by a simple search.
it takes a while to load.
to over clock, hold Left and Right and UP/Down to set the new speed,
to play ff7 you need a memory card of a save after the intro and load it (the intro crashes the emulator), it is also available on the site.
FF7 comes in about 1.33 Gigs, so clear some space or just use only the first cd. (I need to find my ff7 cd's from the attic to test it)
Overall, this is just an early release, it slows down on video sequences, but it looks really promising.

I can't believe it! A few weeks back we were rejoicing on the 2.80 eloader and now the PSOne Emulator. This is the best PSP year ever. Looks like Santa's doing his job for kids( at heart) like us.

Yashamaru - I primarily bought my PSP for retail games, not for homebrew, and since there's 2.8 support, 3.0 doesn't add anything new and interesting for me, and I don't have any games that require 2.81 or higher just yet, I'm homebrewing around. Don't be a dick.
Hm, I need a bigger memory stick... *scratches chin*

oh well I give it a month before the guy gives up on this thing. If he does continue it will be a long time before it's playable to me anyway. Kinda reminds me of that N64 emulator that was released and that thing hasn't been updated in a long time. In short I hold out little hope for this going anywhere.
