Will you make the upgrade to 3.0?
Firmware 3.0 is out, and not everyone is rejoicing. Some are bitter that they need an impossible-to-get PS3 to download PSone games (for now, at least). Others just don't want to bother with an upgrade. Thinking about all the new features of Sony's latest official firmware, will you make the upgrade? Or, will you keep your current firmware, for whatever reason (homebrew or not)?

I'm upgrading, it's a substantial upgrade and I can't wait to download some PSone games through someone else's PS3.
Also, just the ability to turn the Auto-Start off is joy!

That is the thing - I'm not freaking out about the PS3 exclusivity ... heck, they are in deep trouble with the PS3 right now, I'll wait a few weeks to get PSOne games.

I'm lucky enough to have a PSP with an Undiluted Platinium chip in it, as well as a 'standard' PSP. So the UP PSP covers my homebrew needs and the generics PSP gets the latest firmware.
Best of both worlds, but a pain in the wallet.

I've upgraded, but I'm furious at Sony's cheek. Why on earth should I have to fork out (what I consider to be) and obscene amount of money to get a PS3 so that I can play FF VII on my PSP? The entire reason I went portable is so that I don't have to be tethered in front of a console and TV.
Perhaps using the PS3 as a vector for playing PSOne games on the PSP is only a temporary part of Sony's marketing and eventually the games will be available for consumers who are strictly portable. I'm not holding my breath though.
Apologies if overly-negative.

I have 2.8 with homebrew... no way am I upgrading, but it is very, very, very tempting... 3.0 is... shinier.
I knew sony would do something, imagine, if you could actually save the psone game to your psp memory stick directly, what is to stop you from uploading on the net or sharing with friends ? nothing, so sony set up the PS3 as a content rights management, ie to prove that you actually have the right to play it on that psp, the PS3 must unlock the game for your specific psp. Or an alternative would be to connect to the net and verify (via the MAC address or something similar inside the psp) that you paid for the game.
Hopefully sony will realise that is a stupid idea and give gamers more leway, or more likely, someone will find a way to hack a game to play on any psp. my money (or lack of it) is on the hack :)

i personally dont get into all the homebrew stuff. i have a boat-load of emulators and roms on my computer and i dont even play them (and yes i know there is other uses for homebrew other then roms and emulators). so i updated last night. its pretty nice so far, i really like the visualization thingy (didnt see that one comin). the scheduled RSS recording looks intriguing as well (even if i dont do the podcast thing its still intriguing that it can do this lol). and the remote play will be great when i get my PS3.

I've downloaded it, but I haven't installed it yet. I won't unless I absolutely have to. I think that the need of a PS3 to play PS1 games on the PSP is a major slap in the face. Sony, in my opinion has not done enough to support the PSP. I mean, the only UMD player is the PSP- that's why movie companies stopped releasing movies on UMD (except for Sony). They're trying too little too late with these downloadable demos (not enough of them) and the PSP Spot here in the States. You hardly see any ads except for the dustballs. And where the heck are the 8 GB memory stick duo pros at??? After the PS3 shortage and now the need for one to emulate PS1 games on the PSP is seriously making me start thinking about the 360.
