It's finally here. The Megaton firmware. THREE POINT ZERO ZERO. All you have to do is access Network Update and download the file. (As of this writing, the upgrade is not available on the US or Japanese PSP websites.)
This update includes the following changes:
- PLAYSTATION Network titles are now supported under [Game].
- [Remote Play] has been added as a feature under [Network].
- [Online Instruction Manuals] has been added as a feature under [Network].
- Timed recording has been added as a feature under [RSS Channel].
- A visual player has been added as a feature under [Music].
- 3-speed fast forward and fast reverse has been added as a feature under [Music].
- [Camera] has been added as a feature under [Photo].
- [UMD Auto-Start] has been added as a feature in [System Settings] under [Settings].

Certificate Utility: used to authorize the PSP to play downloaded games, I assume.

Helps you use every feature of your PSP. Not bad.

Chotto Shot coming soon? Hope so.

Best part of 3.0? No more UMD game auto-loading. Yes!

One of my favorite features is the multi-step fast forward/rewind for audio. Anyone who uses their PSP for podcasts will know why this feature is completely essential. Glad to see Sony took notice. (Still would like the 'Go To' option like they have in video)
Anyone also notice in the Online manual, it goes into some of the camera's recording features. The videos recorded appear to be no longer restricted to 15 seconds like they are with the original camera software. They are limited only by the size of your card.

SONY! ATTENTION!
OMG Sony please PLEASE give us the ability to multitask!!
The PSP can multitask, it is possible with the hardware, no?
I mean, currently we can look around the XMB while a song is playing, but we can't go into any sub-menus that require the loading of the memory stick or the UMD... it would be awesome if the PSP could play music while you surf on the internet or look at a picture slideshow!!!

Ok sony WTF u relly think ppl will buy da ps3 for 600 dollers.
And that u did da same thing as the locationFree player that you need to watch tv to your psp.Now you gonna make us pay $600 to download psp1 games.
Thanks god that i didnt update along time ago,now i can play homebrew,so it already has da ps1 games download and all these other stuff like u can play gba, sesn, netendo games, and etc.

A rough translation of the post by johnlena
Benjamin, I heard tell that if you use “home-brew” on your PSP you will be able to listen to you own choice of music whilst browsing the Internet and playing games. Please be aware I'm not trying to encourage you to do so.
Sony! Are we to believe you expect people to part with $600 of their hard earned currency for the PS3? To access the extra functionality we, the customer, are forced into buying additional hardware to implement the extra features. In order to watch TV we are expected to buy the location free player and now you make the same mistake again and force us to purchase the PS3 so we can play downloadable games!
This is unacceptable.
I give thanks to the lord that I was strong enough to resist updating the firmware. This decision has left me in the enviable position of being able to play any PS1 game title I wish to, as well as opening the door to games from other platforms, such as the GBA and so on.
Of course this is my personal opinion and if you find yourself not interested in the “home-brew” scene then by all means upgrade your firmware. I myself enjoy being able to play music whilst engaging in other activities. If only Sony would bend to my requirements then I might be interested in the firmware upgrade.
The future, for some at least, is not so bright.

The ability to set the RSS timer to a day of the week as well as the time would have been nice. I, as most I believe, use the RSS to get weekly pod casts and such that are published weekly so a daily timer is a waste of power.

Has anyone downloaded the 3.0 firmware from this site? Is it exactly the same as I would get from Network Update, without any changes or creative programming?
I really want to update my PSP before I go home for Thanksiving, and don't have WiFi access to get it from Network Update.
I'm kinda leery of doing something to brick my PSP just before vacation, and have never downloaded anything from PSP Fanboy--though I love reading it!

@ Edward
What is this "Certificate Utility" under the Game menu?
That has to do with the DRM that Sony is applying to the downloads so that they can only be played on your unit or shared x number of times etc...

THANK YOU.
As someone over the age of 20 I didn't understand that post until you posted the clarification.
Thank you for saving my brain. If I could grant you a star I would.

@Kspraydad ... No problem
@johnlena ... to be fair you, it was no worse than 90% of the comment writing seen on this and other sites. I didn't mean to offend, I just thought it amusing.
I guess as I'm knocking on the door of 40, I place greater respect in the delivery of the language than I did twenty years ago. Although I'm no fan of the way you and others write your comments, although I recognise it's a way of indentifying yourselves with your peers, and gives those who practise it a sense of "belonging". No doubt if I were of the age, it would be the way I wrote whilst on the interent.
I love my PSP and I love the latest firmware, I'm looking forward to getting a PS3 as soon as the price becomes a little more realistic, which I realise may be a little while yet. They say patience is a virtue, I'm not sure many people think that these days.
