Remember that song, "Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?" Yeah, it was a classic, wasn't it? Well, I've adopted the song for Sony and Nintendo representatives. It goes like this:
Who sold marginally less handheld systems?
Sony sold marginally less handheld systems!
Who me?
Yes YOU!
Couldn't be!
Then, who?
Who sold marginally less handheld systems?
Nintendo sold marginally less handheld systems!
Who me?
Yes YOU!
Couldn't be!
Then, who?
"Right now, with the combination of DS and DS Lite we are outselling the competition by a ratio of 3:1. This increase in hardware sales has also driven an increase in DS software sales, moving ahead of PSP in the total number of units and also, more interestingly, we have now seen that the same third party titles are selling more on the DS than on other formats. We are seeing publishers start to rethink their strategies switching development from other formats to the successful DS platform and, more importantly, creating bespoke titles that fully utilise the DS features rather than simply porting content without taking advantage of the great things you can do on DS."
Once again, I haven't really seen third parties run away from Sony's handheld. Once quality games stop coming for my system, that's when I'll start to get worried. Until then, I'll enjoy my underappreciated PSP, just as much as I've enjoyed my Gamecube and Dreamcast (I have a real knack for choosing underdogs, huh?).

Woa woa stop there my friend,PSP is no Dreamcast(yet dreamcast it had some cool stuff)is still alive. It has a lot of good games that no one have heard about since Sony doesnt advertise them like Nintendo. Also there is fuzzy math there,i havent seen 30 million of Ds units sold for every PSP 10 million.
3:1 My ass.
Sony marketing sucks ass,i heard about the PSP searching for Mortal kombat and i found it on a fan site in the search page 4 or 5 on yahoo,No thanks for their ads or publicity also i havent seen 3rd party developing nothing for the ds like they do for the PSP.Work Time Fun DS Lmao.
PSP has a future but they need to advertize it for what it is,the hair balls and the rats?,the people that made the ads were on crack or they simply hired any jackass to do the job?.
PSP has more inovation, that nintendo is stealing like the mp3 and video.I have seen people that truly want a PSP but think thats is to expensive since they dont see the whole picture,i mean you can drop the price but it wouldnt sell at the same level as the DS since they dont know what the PSP can do and why it deserves the whole 200$ or 250$.
Sony is failing on advertise the PSP,they need games with a lot of publicity like pokemon that move millions.
Also i dont think PSP is going to Die,and if it does crap it was the BEST HANDHELD EVER MADE.
It would be sad if the PSP dies(not going to)since people will be stuck with the Nintendo crap like nintendogs and pokemon. But it seems like people like cheap handhelds with poor quality that play 1 single game and more that they dont like but everyone says is good.
PEER PRESSURE FTW.
Im not going to buy nothing from nintendo until they come up with something i like, the wii almost got me but they lied to me.250$ the strip down version,400$ the good stuff.
400$ for a Ps2 with different cover?!,F*ck you nintendo,the x360 has better stuff and im only 200$ away from a PS3.
Im returning to the PC it has better stuff anyway also im bringing my PSP with me.Megaman powered up with F.E.A.R,no better combo than that.

Again, it's all just corpospeak bullshit. The PSP has done BETTER than the Gamecube and Dreamcast.
The Nintendo mouthpiece talks up the unique features. As a DS owner and with many games for it both owned and Gamefly'd, I can say with some experience that the number of games that are really augmented and made more unique by the touchscreen (relatively speaking, since PDA gaming has been used the touchscreen for over a decade) are few and far between, even now. Meanwhile, the number of games that are ANNOYING in how the touchscreen control is shoehorned into the gameplay is higher, and even more are the games that could take or leave it, entirely.
As for hardware sales, the PSP still isn't hurting. Comparing September NPD (again, useful for trends only) from 2005 to 2006 actually shows a minor increase in PSP sales (and of course a huge one for the DS Lite).
The part that IS of concern? Software sales. Big problem, and it needs to reverse itself or developers really *will* leave the PSP... But at the moment, things still look pretty good with all the recent releases and more coming. Ace Combat X!

I agrre with Latsaber and Pixelator ( yes with the PC PSP combination to ) . The DS is selling well , but not even twice . Ex : The Xbox soled 50 million + units , and the PS2 solled 100 million + units , even as this the Xbox was taken as a winner console , and it had a huge income for MS . This went down in more than 5 years . Now the PSP will sell in 2 years somewhere betwen 25-30 million units ( dont forget hollidays are comming , and some awesome games , and it had solled 22 allready ) . The PSP outsolled the Dreamkast in less than a year and the Gamecube in less than 2 years , and its a HANDEHALD , not even a big console , so who is doing bad ?

Do you really, really, really insist that the PSP's video and MP3 playback are deal breakers? They make the device "oh so sweet"?
I'm sorry, but I've got several UMD's movies and games, and a 2GB MSPD, and I still don't find myself ever turning the thing on. It just isn't that exciting of a device once you get over it's "multifunctionality". It's too big for portable music, and too small for movies. The browser is worthless, and that slow refresh rate just irritates the eyes.
Everyone I talk to doesn't seem to care about the PSP or the DS anymore. They both seems like stupid fads, just like iPods. I have them both (DS/PSP), and got my money's worth out of the DS...but I'm still waiting for FF on the PSP to make it worthwhile.
If you ask me...a PDA is a much better investment in the end.

4: Once again, broken record boy uses this site as his Sony-hate soapbox... And as usual, anyone who has seen his blog or previous posts cares exactly not one whit about what he has to say on the subject.

Apparently, you've never heard of EA. They have recently stated that while they love the technological aspects of the PSP, the DS has sold a lot more and they are shifting their resources in that direction.
Don't get me wrong, I have both systems and use both nearly every day. But let's be honest and take a cold hard look at the fact that the PSP's price point and lack of pick-up and play gaming coupled with long load times has made it a less than perfect handheld system.
