People seem to be real antsy about the release of the upcoming 3.0 firmware from Sony, and lame fakers on the internet are capitalizing on our anticipation. According to PlayStation forum user, Leah, the 3.0 firmware upgrade will be released this Thursday at Sony's Gamer's Day. Here's what she said:
"Sony will be reveling the information as well as dating the release about the next major update at Gamer's Day in San Francisco on October 19th. You guys will just love the new "Remote Play" feature, located under the "Network" icon, which allows you to access the PLAYSTATION® 3 from the PSP™ (PlayStation® Portable)."
Joystiq will be live at the event this Thursday, so we'll find out the truth then.

that screenshot looks fake, i think... the main xmb icons look too small and by looking at where the lcd ends it looks like theyre a lto higher up on the lcd than they were before, i dunno. looks strange to me.

err, that's the PS3's XMB. it was demoed a cuple months ago, cant remember the details, but that is an actual shot, no fake. actually, that;s from a video. the PS3 icon is to connect to the PSP from the PS3. that other icon next to the network is a firends list. also, they demoed the PS3's web browser, and several other things (love the new built in photo editing!! )

Doing a search on past posts suggested some degree of accuracy. And during E3, they suggested an October release date. Of course, it could have just been luck before, and E3 is more puffery than reality.
I just hope it has something useful for those of us without six hundred bucks to spend on an overpriced console system that's trying to be a desktop.
