In the wake of Bethesda's Oblivion heading to the PSP next year, poor old Star Trek: Tactical Assault seems to have been lost in the shuffle. At least it has to most of us gamers, but I'm sure it hasn't to you Trekkies out there.
Well, to said Trekkies, I'm sure you'll be eager to hear Bethesda has just released about a dozen new Tactical Assault screens.
Just in case you didn't know, long-time Star Trek writer, D.C. Fontana, is penning Tactical Assault's script, and the game is a space-based, tactical-strategy game set in the original Star Trek universe. Tactical Assault is set to release Oct. 3.

Now, this is one game that looks really compelling on the DS. The touch interface is a very cool idea, and I'm worried that after seeing them side by side I'll like the DS version better. Granted, the PSP graphics will probably be sexier, but the screens of the interface on the DS look awesome. Maybe awesome enough to make me finally get a DS, too, and complete my fall into multi-console hell.

I think they're putting more effort into the DS version. The PSP screens look almost identical to the DS ones except for the aspect ratio and lack of second display. It's fairly apparent they're using the exact same models and textures - NOT good.
The PSP doesn't appear to have any onscreen data to compare to the DS stat screen, and although I don't like DS games that require me to use the stylus, having direct access to ship functions in realtime would be an advantage. It almost seems like they designed and developed the game and graphics around the DS and then ported it to the PSP sans secondary screen.
If this is the case - that the PSP version looks no better and plays worse, I certainly won't buy the PSP version and may boycott the DS one just on principle. If you're going to do two versions of the same game on systems that have such different configurations, you need to play to each platform's strengths, not cut & paste.

Here is some footage of the PSP version of
Star Trek Tactical Assault
I wish the quality was better but it still shows what the psp can do.
