The latest episode of the 1UP Yours Podcast held an interesting revelation about the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Some fans felt burned by Rockstar's decision to bring the beloved Liberty City Stories over to the PS2 in a direct port. Well, according to the podcast, an editor that had a chance to play the game found out that Vice City will not makes it way to the PS2. Why? Because the game's going to be completely optimized for the handheld, making it more difficult to do a straight port Considering how Liberty City sold 2.2 million copies worldwide, it doesn't seem like a bad decision at all.

I thought the porting of LCS to the PS2 was a mistake. It dilutes impact of the PSP getting a GTA of its own, and while it's a technical achievement on the PSP, on the PS2 it wasn't that impressive, though there's some novelty to the idea of a handheld game getting a fairly straight port to a console.
I suspect Rockstar checked out a few reviews of LCS for PS2 and figured they'd keep the portable version of VCS to the portable.

By the time porting the game is a possiblity the PS3 will be out and PS2 games are going to have a hard time selling (just like what happened to original xbox games). Not only that, but if the refrain from porting it the game will maintain its exclusive status, which usually helps games sell.
That's probably the real reason they made the decision not to port it.

Yea they say this now but just wait once the game has been out for a few months they will port it to the ps2. Sony will not pass up a chance to make more money on this franchise. If they can make a few bucks by porting this to the ps2 then they will. It just stands to reason it's all about making money after all.

You're right Ratchet. Rockstar Leeds has said they have "no plans" to port it to PS2. Well, in 3 months, they may very well come up with a plan to port it. HAHA
