Trekkies, it's time to rejoice, because I bring you good tidings. Longtime Star Trek TV writer Dorothy "DC" Fontana has been tasked with writing the script for the PSP and Nintendo DS version of Star Trek: Tactical Assault. Tactical Assault is being developed by Bethesda Softworks, which may only add more fuel to the fire to the recent Oblivion PSP port.
Fontana has written for the original TV series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: The Animated Adventures, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and several other Sci-fi TV series.
As the name suggests, the game is a space-based, tactical-strategy game set in the original Star Trek universe, and players will have the choice of commanding a Starfleet or Kingon commander in real-time ship combat with branching missions. Tactical Assault, which should be out by year's end, will also support wireless multiplayer.
I'll admit, I'm not big into the Star Trek universe. I remember renting all of the movies as a wee lad. I had a great idea that I'd have a Star Trek marathon that weekend which would rival any that came before it. But instead, I couldn't get through about 15 minutes of Wrath of Khan. I think I'll stick with Star Wars.

This brings tears to my eyes.....No really I'm crying, this is a sad day for the PSP. This sort of port is just plain sad; why didn't they just release the shows and the movies on UMD?

You couldn't get through 15 minutes of Wrath of Khan? Get the bloody hell out, misanthropic heathen!
And here's another mouth breather whining about a game being a port... Bethesda just announced original Trek veteran DC Fontana, the SCRIPT WRITER for the PSP and DS versions (very different from each other) game. How could this be a port? ST: Legacy is an entirely different game, as people would know if they read the Gamespot article:
"On the other hand, the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS game Star Trek: Tactical Assault will be set exclusively in the original-series setting. Focusing on real-time ship combat"

Sorry pixelator, but Star Trek never really did it for me. I must admit, though, I did watch and enjoyed a few episodes of Next Generation.
I especially loved the Ferengis for their curious resemblance to former Dallas Maverick Popeye Jones.
