It seems ever since Sony released the PSP, it has been playing a cat and mouse game with homebrew and piracy developers. And just as the cat thinks its about to catch the mouse, it slips away again.
In a recent article, the Washington Post elaborates on Sony's, and other console company's, attempts to stop piracy and homebrew. The article also reveals what many of us have already known for a while - Sony throwing in a couple of next-to-useless features bundled with patches to close security leaks and calling it an update.
While Sony has every right to safeguard its system from people attempting to illegally play PSP ISOs, I think it would be nice to see them somehow embrace the homebrew community while also continuing the fight against piracy. How do you guys feel about Sony's attempts at stopping piracy and homebrew on the PSP, and do you think they'll ever succeed?

I think that embracing the homebrew community is the only way for Sony to have a shot at besting the DS. Almost everyone I know who owns a PSP owns one because of the homebrew offerings, not because of the plethora of PS2 ports.
Then again ... all the PSP owners I know were DS owners first. They bought that one for the games.

well... all the people I know that got PSPs immediately want to downgrade it. When I asked why every single one told me: "So I don't have to buy games".
Yeah, homebrew is nice... but get real, most of the people downgrading just want to play games without paying for them.

I think that Sony should allow the homebrew stuff. Because of the more fun you can have with the PSP, Which will bring them to the top! But I disagree with the whole PSP ISO ripping, Ok, Buy the game. I say Sony should make a website where people can submit there Homebrew and have Sony ok it and let others download it. Then we at least have a little bit of a chance of have cool Homebrew.

i agree with follow the leader, sony should let us use things like Bookr. even though playing isos is illegal its not wrong but we cant expect sony to let us just steal their games, but they could make some money off of letting us pay a couple bucks to download homebrew apps, or even make some of their own
