Tom Mayer, one of the coders behind the PSP port of the ScummVM emulator, speaks about the complications of the development process, his favorite homebrew release, and the potential of the PSP hardware. He also gives the ps2dev.org website a thorough tongue bathing, but that's another story altogether. The emulator allows SCUMM-based games like The Secret of Monkey Island and Sam & Max Hit the Road to run on hardware it wasn't originally meant to run on.
One of the most interesting points that Mayer brings up is Sony's lack of acknowledgement for the PSP homebrew scene. It's too soon to tell if or when the company will roll the red carpet out for PSP homebrewers, but if the PS2 Linux kit is any indication, that could very well be a distinct possibility at some future date. Preferably before you-know-where freezes over.

The reason why Sony will never support PSP-homebrew,it seems, is due to piracy.
I own a ps3-linux kit and have been active on its forums. there is no way you can rip out a game and run it through the kit. i am not talking about mod-chips here....
the thing is... the ps2 has mod-chips, because cd's can be burnts onto cd-rs and so on.. nothing sony can do about it. so basically, the linux kit , or rather home brew, isnt a piracy tool..
on the other hand, homebrew on the psp is a piracy tool which sony is sony will always avoid. now come up with a way for homebrew to run but not ripped off games, and sony will totally support it.....

I'm not sure just what the problem is with Sony and homebrew. It seems like if they would just embrace it, put out some tools to those who are interested and let them go at it, they could make lots of money. They could also option the more advanced things the hackers came up with. Oh wait, this is Sony. That'll never happen.

Kinda on point - i played Day Of The Tenticle and Full Throttle to death, as well as all the Monkey Islands.
If they put all the SCUMM based games on one UMD, i'd pay £30 for that!!
I wouldn't even think twice. So why don't they?
