Mobile blogger extraordinaire, Russell Beattie, upgraded his PSP Firmware to 2.6 and has posted a hands-on first impression of the new functionalities on his blog. If any of you non-homebrewers out there are wondering about the upgrade, you might want to look over what Russell has written.
One part that I found interesting was a slight fault he finds with the PSP's new RSS capabilities (which are really all about podcasting). Russell notes, "Alright, that was fun. Now when do we get Video support? Seems like a huge missed opportunity! :-) And honestly, Ive got a 1GB memory stick in this bad boy, so itd be nice to have the option to download the files as well. Streaming is nice and convenient, but downloading is pretty useful."
Is it just me, or does it seem like Sony is trying to play catch up with the iPod and the iTMS with this recent addition of podcasting support? If so, I think Russell is right. They're lagging behind a bit.

SONY certainly is playing catchup with iTMS, but at least they ARE!
What I'm wondering is, wouldn't it have been a nice touch to somehow integrate the RSS Channel feature with the PSP Media Manager?

I don't think sony is behind the iPod, the PSP was made for gaming, all these other features are bonuses in my opinion. iPod's are great machines and all, but they were made to do what the PSP's bonus features are doing; can't play any high-end 3D games on them...

I swear, the next time someone compares the PSP's crap MP3/media functionality to the iPods, i'm gonna sit someone down with my PSP and 4 games, and my 60GB iPod, and get them to play the games that are avaliable on both.
Why the hell is no one going on about how CRAP the games are on the iPod?
If the PSP was as good a multimedia device as the iPod, it would be twice the device of the iPod, as the iPod has 4 crap games, and will never have Ridge Racer or Wipeout on it.
Oh, and i installed the new firmware, as i'm not the homebrew type, and didn't see anything new worth having. Oh well, maybe next time :)
